Uber has lost a bid on Friday to overturn a decision by a tribunal which had said its drivers deserved workers’ rights including a the minimum wage.
UNI affiliate GMB who won the original case last year said, “Uber must now face up to its responsibilities and give its workers the rights to which they are entitled.”
UNI Global Union General Secretary, Philip Jennings said, “Its Uber and out! This is a massive victory not only for GMB and the Uber workers they represent but for Uber workers around the world. The Uber model is rightly under-attack because it is an attempt to avoid responsibility for workers and effectively take away their rights. Today’s decision will create ripples far and wide across the new frontiers of the digital economy. The decision also confirms that labour rights should be front and centre in the Future World of Work.
